Characters in Question

From time to time, I’m asked about my characters beyond what they do in the books. Unless you live under a rock, you’ll know why this topic came up recently. Hint, Google: “Hands Off” and “April 5, 2025.” The question for me, the author of Destroyers books, is as follows:

Which of your characters are most likely to be an activist, and what kind?

I can rule out:

Michelle, Mouse/Haley, Olivia… and probably Danielle. Most of them are too shy or too secretive to be seen in public and would, if they were doing activist work, would be behind-the-scenes. I don’t see any of them marching or protesting in the streets.

I can’t rule out:

Mary, Betty Jo, Sierra, Kate, and Poppy. Each of these women would fight tooth and nail for things like equality, women’s rights, and most importantly, freedom. They’d have different styles of fighting, but they’d be right in the thick of things when shit hits the fan.

But… Rachel definitely has the fire for it despite issues with crowds now, and surprise! Edie and Marie would also pick up causes.

Here’s where I would see these women as a fit:

Rachel, would raise the banner to fight just about anything unfair or xenophobic. Despite her delicate frame, she is FIERCE. Nickel, of course, would do anything in his power to protect her so that might be a sticking point for those two. Odds of her participating in anything like the protests on Saturday? About 40:60. I think the crowd size would be a deciding factor. She’d man a call center or something.

Marie would totally be front and CENTER championing anything relating to childhood illnesses and assist with fundraising against cancer or other ailments. Her nephew’s birth defect is a primary driver to that decision. In fact, I would assume most of the charity drives the club does have her leading the cause. Meghan (Lodo’s wife) would be right at her side. Add Rachel to the mix and poor Mary would be sidelined completely.

But don’t worry, Sierra and Mary could rock a cause. But they’ll butt heads figuring out who will lead. Sierra would likely champion women’s shelters, reproductive rights, and equality. Mary wants equality and freedom for her brother’s children and for anyone who is treated like a second class citizen. Poppy would be right there with her.

Kate and Betty Jo may seem like more traditional biker wives, but they are anything but. Both have first hand experience with abusive spouses and would be the women using their bodies as a shield for anyone trying to escape that situation.

The Sleeper?

Now the surprise/sleeper of the crew is Edie. She might be a dreamer, artistic, shy, and quiet, but don’t get her ignited. She will go ballistic on injustices and knows the quiet art of not giving a f**k about what you think. From environmental and nature causes to women’s rights, Edie would likely instigate and organize the protests. She’d probably design extra signs to hand out on the day of any protest. And the way I see it? her old man can either come along and help or step out of the way and let her roar. No one will keep her down—not after dealing with Eddie.

She definitely is a member of MADD.

But…

Now, obviously, you’re thinking I miscast Haley. But no… She’s a background girl. Need a website hacked? Want to share cute “cocktail” recipes? Or maybe just “end things” with a bang? She’s the one you call when the peace talks crumble. Michelle would be right at her side, picking off the opposition. I’d hate to see those two riled up.

What about the guys?

Walt, obviously. He won’t back down from a fight he thinks he can win. Even the ones he doesn’t think he can win, he’ll figure out a way to do battle and come out on top.

Indy? No freaking way. His answer to just about anything is permanently silencing it. Jackson would help him hide the evidence.

Nickel, Hickey, and Skinner? Dear reader, they probably are already members of an unnamed masked hacker club. Just saying.

Kid? No. Sorry. He’s all about the family and the club. He won’t have time. If he does show up it is because Sierra made him.

Boots? He’s a special case. Walt would have to make sure he isn’t handling anything dangerous. I doubt the club will “let” him get involved.

Sprout? Hell no. Sorry. He’s not the activist sort. He’s too busy teaching innocent mouths how to swear… and fuuuucking. Ma might poke his tail into gear when necessary. Danielle is still learning how to do that.

Ice? Snake? Perhaps. But they prefer ninja methods. Although, if veterans are getting screwed over, Ice would likely go John Wick on their ass.

Smoke, Lodo, or Digger? If their wives are in, they’re in. If only to keep an eye on them.

I missed one couple: Wolf and Megan (Tits). Megan already champions the fights against human trafficking and battered women. Wolf helps, in his own way, and stays out of the spotlight just in case his wife needs an extraction ASAP.

There you have it. My fictional activists. Enjoy.
