First, let’s just be transparent, I’m not a good girl. I swear, get angry, and have trouble with authority at times. (insert nervous laughter here)
But do you know who is a good girl? Why, this pretty lady (in the image below) because collies are the best. And my latest FMC (female main character) owns a Rough Collie with all the beautiful long hair, black tipped pointy ears, and that majestic white ruff. In the story, her name is Molly – get it? Molly the collie.
I know… bad author for the alliteration. I didn’t name her, my characters did.
I adore collies because my first dogs (farm… there were multiple over the years) were all collie or collie/shepherd mixes. And something really cool? when you mix a golden collie with e German shepherd you get something that looks quite wolf-like. So yes, I was that little girl with my very own wolf. Or at least I pretended such when we roamed the woods.
Now in my latest story, “Not Mine to Rescue,” Molly is one of those type of dogs that is super in-tune with her owner’s emotions. And when Honor (my FMC) is upset, Molly gets upset. She’s also super attuned to children… more on that later. Herding dogs usually fall into the category of “super smart” and Molly is no exception. She knows that Honor’s newest friend, Wombat, is a good guy.
Even if he’s a biker.
But he’s the kind of biker who, if turned into a dog, would totally rock golden retriever personality. Or maybe just be a big old “dumb ass” like his dog…

Or DA for short.
DA was a foster fail. Or maybe Wombat just can’t stop adopting rescues. Like his owl, Hoot.
Random trivia – and if you’ve read the book, you might laugh at that title… Saw Whet owls AREN’T the smallest owls? Despite being about the size of a Robin, there is a smaller owl on this planet. That would be an Elf Owl – a native of the southwestern US, Mexico, and Baja peninsula. It’s about the size of a sparrow!

Wombat felt unworthy of Honor, but he had a heart as big as all-outdoors for everything he cared about. Rescue animals included.
A tough road for both to find their way to togetherness including a psycho-witch after Wombat with her own psycho agenda!

I teared up because just like those fictional furry pets in my newest book, I like getting told once in a while that I’m a “good girl” or at least that my books are doing the good work of providing an entertaining and “all the feels” story.
