Smutfest was HUGE!
Okay, for a winery event, that is. There were over 200 brave souls who weren’t deterred by heat, humidity, or even a little light rain early in the day, and WOW did they have fun!
If you’ve met me at a book event, you may have heard my icebreaker, “It’ll be fun, trust me!” Usually this is accompanied by a sticker and a smile. At Xella Winery in Mechanicsville, Maryland, this was nearly impossible because SO many readers swarmed the 17 authors and the vendors at the gate it was difficult to talk to every single person who stopped by.
There were vendors like Honey Bee Dragon (check out their recap here) with bookish candles, boudior accessories, oysters, and much more.
Authors reported that they sold out in minutes. Not hours, MINUTES, folks. Within the first hour, at least two authors sold through. That’s huge and I’m so proud of them for showing up and sticking it out.

Luckily, I brought a TON of goodies for readers. Here’s a highlight list:
- My books (Destroyers AND Sinister Legacy)
- Blind date with books
- Book boxes!!!
- Snarky, hand-made, art greeting cards
- Jewelry
- Candy (no van, though)
- My other half (who did the majority of the heavy lifting)
- Decor, banners, and linens
It was refreshing to be able to spread out across two tables and up the walls of the tent. Check out the gallery from that day!
